Frank Stoddard got his start in farming outside of Idaho Falls, Idaho, in 1954. He had recently completed college, which was preceeded by a tour of duty on a US Navy destroyer as a radio operator during World War II.
After three years of farming in Idaho Falls, his wife Donna's family informed him of a piece of ground up for lease that was located two hours south of Idaho Falls in Grace. Their decision to move to Grace in the spring of 1957 and rent this 160 acres of land marked the beginnings of Stoddard Farms.
In 2006, Stoddard Farms entered its 50th year of operation. Today, Stoddard Farms grows nearly 1,000 acres of seed potatoes and 2,500 acres of irrigated barley and wheat. Our barley and wheat are sold locally, while our seed potatoes are shipped to commercial potato growers throughout Idaho and Washington.
The valley of Grace, Idaho, provides a great landscape and environment for growing potatoes. A history of volcanic activity has provided our valley with dark, nutrient-rich soils. Our fields receive their irrigation water from the crystal blue waters of Bear Lake. And our 5,000+ feet elevation and snowy winters help to eradicate plant diseases.
