You may not be aware that our potato crop represents only 1/3 of our total farm acreage.

Aside from the 1,000+ acres of potatoes harvested annually, we also grow about 700 acres of Winter Wheat and 1,400 acres of Barley.

Winter Wheat is planted in October, grows to about 2-3 inches, and then lies dormant throughout the winter. It resumes its growth in the spring and is typically harvested in the middle of August.

Barley is planted in April. It generally takes about 1 1/2 weeks for us to plant the 1,400 acres on our farm. Barley is a faster maturing grain compared to Winter Wheat, so its harvest usually begins the first week of August.

Altogether, it takes about 3-4 weeks to harvest our Barley & Winter Wheat. We typically have a 1-2 week gap between the end of our grain harvest and the beginning of our potato harvest. However, on rare occasion we have had grain harvest overlap into potato harvest.

NOW HERE! From the field to the cellar, we've put together a video to give you a first-hand look at the potato growing process. Follow us from our May planting to our September harvest--and everything in between!
